NB IoT #

NB IoT is a protocol designed for low data usage and low power usage, and can give years of battery operated usage. But this implies some constraints:

1. Not always connected. The device will initiate communication, and any data to the device can have long latencies (configurable from seconds to days).
2. Number of communication sequences can be limited to adhere battery limits or data usage limits. Meaning large data transfers might be distributed over days to conform to such requirements.

IoT Ready addresses this with the following means:

• ProtoCool: Bundles messages into packets and takes care of delivery guarantee.
• Configurable connection interval through Modem service configuration
• Delta updates of large data objects that can be distributed over time.
• Usage quotas to limit daily power/data usage.
